Why Rowing

Rowing offers a unique blend of physical activity, teamwork, and personal growth, making it an excellent sport for middle and high school students to consider. Here are several compelling reasons why young individuals should try out for rowing:

1.

Full-body workout: Rowing engages muscles throughout the body, including the legs, core, back, and arms. This comprehensive workout not only builds strength but also improves cardiovascular fitness, endurance, and flexibility. For adolescents, rowing provides an opportunity to develop healthy exercise habits and maintain overall fitness levels.

2.

Team dynamics: Rowing is a highly collaborative sport that relies on synchronicity and communication among team members. Students learn the importance of teamwork, trust, and mutual support as they work together to achieve a common goal. The camaraderie fostered in rowing can lead to lasting friendships and valuable life skills.

3.

Discipline and dedication: Rowing requires discipline and dedication to succeed. Students must commit to regular training sessions, adhere to a structured workout regimen, and prioritize their health and fitness goals. Through the demands of rowing, young athletes learn the importance of perseverance, time management, and goal setting.

4.

Opportunities for competition: Rowing offers opportunities for both recreational and competitive participation. Whether students aspire to compete at the local, regional, or national level, rowing provides avenues for personal achievement and growth. Competing in regattas can be exhilarating experiences that encourage students to push their limits and strive for excellence.

5.

Personal development: Beyond physical fitness and competition, rowing fosters personal development in areas such as leadership, resilience, and self-confidence. Facing challenges on the water and overcoming setbacks teach students valuable life lessons that extend far beyond the sport itself.

Core Values

1.

We are a team.

First and foremost, we support each other in everything we do. Rowing requires a nearly unmatched level of teamwork and that means you have to know and trust that your teammates will always be there for you. No matter what you are doing or how busy you think you are, taking the time to listen to or help your teammates is the most important thing you can do.

2.

We are constantly improving.

Practices are designed to help improve your technical ability and athletic performance. We expect our athletes and coaches to show up every day ready to work hard and always focused on how we can improve and make the team better.

3.

We love the fight!

School isn’t always easy. Sports aren’t always easy. Life isn’t always easy. Sometimes everything seems to go our way and other times it takes a little extra grit to push through and get the job done. We never give up on our goals, ourselves, or our teammates. We have the mental and physical drive and determination to stick it out until the end, and no matter what happens, we love the fight!
